CBS reports on ICE's recent moves towards amnesty through policy.
CBS reports in this news story about the massive number of deportation cases that are being terminated (dismissed) throughout Texas and the rest of the country. It seems to appear that the enormous lack of support for amnesty legislation in Congress is not going to stop the President's plans for a "path to citizenship" for the millions of lawbreakers that have crossed into or stayed in the United States illegally. Assistant Secretary Morton, head of ICE, has stated publicly that ICE has the resources to remove only around 400,000 illegal aliens annually, but this story indicates that the new ICE policy may stop the removal of almost a quarter of a million illegal aliens throughout the nation. The policy change takes advantage of a legal loophole for which certain illegal aliens are eligible, but seeing an enforcement agency like ICE take actions to not just prioritize enforcement, but actively cut loose lawbreakers after they're caught is highly unusual.
At a time when the American people are crying for stronger enforcement of our immigration laws, it's difficult to fathom why ICE would choose this moment to enact amnesty through policy.
